Artist: Capleton Title: Still Blazin Label: VP Recensito da: Per Tosi Scroll to right column for english version In questi ultimi anni Capleton ha lavorato veramente duro, registrando un mare di brani per quasi tutti i produttori, specialmente i nuovi teams produttivi che si occupano di hardcore dancehall, ed attraverso le sue liriche 'infuocate' e la sua posizione militante di bobo dread si e' di sicuro assicurato un posto di rilievo nella recente storia del reggae. Sul fronte interno in Jamaica la lotta per la supremazia nel campo del 'deejay style' e' sempre molto aspra ed apparentemente 'il Profeta' pare avere perso il terreno sotto i colpi di personaggi come Elephant Man o Sizzla, mentre per il mercato 'esterno' cioe' la distribuzione mondiale, l'etichetta americana VP pubblica ora un nuovo album di Capleton che appare immediatamente al primo ascolto come uno straordinario capolavoro. The Prophet dispiega le sue forze lungo le diciassette tracce (piu' la graditissima traccia fantasma) che compongono questo 'Still blazing' veramente al meglio con il suo stile potente spingendo le sue liriche e le varie sfumatore del suo ruggito un po' su tutti i ritmi che gli sono congeniali anche se le quattro tracce d'apertura su ritmi 'new roots' con tanto di batteria acustica sono assolutamente memorabili: dopo una breve intro 'acapella' abbiamo 'Search a fi find', la straordinaria 'Behold' in combination con Morgan Heritage, 'Mashing up the earth' e la gia' conosciuta su singolo 'I will survive'. Se consideriamo le tracce dancehall ed hardcore possiamo dire che l'album e' strutturato con grande equlibrio tra gli stili e sono presenti alcuni super-hits come 'Cooyah cooyah', 'Pure woman', 'Guerrilla warfare' o 'Gimme the woman' che appare come traccia fantasma in coda. Per cio' che riguarda comunque i nostri gusti personali comunque sono le tracce roots che lasciano il segno, come per esempio la combination con Luciano 'Hail King Selassie' (apparsa anche come singolo Black Scorpio con il titolo 'Never let the youths dem die'), la straordinaria e dolcissima 'Mi deh yah' (anche questa uscita su singolo) e l'altra stupenda combination con Glen Washington 'Jah is gonna work it out'. Capleton colpisce decisamente nel segno con questo notevole 'Still blazing', album che impiega al meglio tutti i producers e musicisti coinvolti e si candida decisamente al titolo di miglior album reggae di questo 2002. Capleton non pare assolutamente ossessionato dall'idea di infarcire l'album di dancehall hits e probabilmente la mossa vincente di questo 'Still blazing' e' la buona quantita' di grandi canzoni roots che e' possibile ascoltare al suo interno. Se esiste una audience affezionata al roots ed abbastanza lontana alle correnti produzioni dancehall, questo e' sicuramente un buon modo per farsi sentire da questi potenziali ascoltatori. In the latest years Capleton worked really hard, recording a number of tunes for almost all the producers, with a special attention for the arising production teams which deal with the hardcore dancehall, and through his flaming lyrics and his bobo dread militancy he reached a top ranking in the recent reggae history. In Jamaica the fight for the supremacy in the "deejay style" is always very fierce, and "The Prophet" has apparently lost terrain facing people like Elephant Man or Sizzla, while for the foreign market the U.S. label VP is now releasing a new album which appears, at the first listening, an extraordinary masterpiece. The Prophet spreads all his forces along the seventeen tracks (over the appreciate ghost track) which constitute this "Still blazing" in a excellent way with his powerful style, pushing his lyrics and the shades of his roar over all the rhythms, even if the "new roots" style of the initial four tracks, with the acoustic drums, is absolutely unforgettable. After a short "acapella" intro there is "Search a fi find", the extraordinary "Behold" in combiantion with Morgan Heritage, "Mashing up the earth" and the already known on single "I will survive". The presence of some dancehall and hardcore tracks lets us state that this album has a great composure among the different styles, with some super-hits like "Cooyah cooyah", "Pure woman", "Guerrilla warfare" or "Gimme the woman" which appears as ghost track at the end of the CD. Our greatest remark is however about the roots tunes, like the combination with Luciano "Hail King Selassie" (a.k.a. "Never let the youths dem die" released on 7" by Black Scorpio label), the extraordinary, sweet "Mi deh yah" (even this one released on 7") and the other excellent combination with Glen Washington "Jah is gonna work out". Capleton hits the target with this remarkable "Still blazing", album which engages at the most all the involved producers and musicians, and is undoubtely candidate for the title of best reggae album of the 2002. Capleton appears not to be obsessed by the idea of filling the album of dancehall hits, and most probably the winning idea of this work is the quantity of great roots tunes.
