David Kirton e' un promettente artista reggae con base a Barbados e
questo suo 'Stranger' e' la sua prima realizzazione discografica, nonostante
la sua non piu' giovanissima eta' (e' nato nel novembre del 1962). La
prima cosa da dire di questo suo 'Stranger' e' che non e' assolutamente
un disco di maniera, anzi il suo approccio al reggae e' molto moderno,
con atmosfere molto vicine al nuovo soul, ma soluzioni melodiche sempre
piuttosto raffinate e mai banali. 'Stranger' e' un disco sorprendentemente
bello: i suoi brani come detto non sono banali, ma la musica di David
ha comunque un appeal pop da farti pensare a un artista dalle potenzialita'
di un comunicatore mondiale e di un probabile possibile successo planetario.
Tra le varie esperienze, David ha anche alcuni legami giamaicani, il cui
piu' importante, Mikey Bennett (Grafton Studios) non ha che buone parole
da spendere per lui. Mikey e' anche coautore di due dei brani piu' belli
del CD: 'Rasta meditation', irie feelings da brivido, con una melodia
che ricorda Gil Scott-Heron, e 'Thanks and praise', riuscitissimo momento
Binghi. Tra i restanti brani non ci sono cadute: reggae music degli anni
novanta, pronto a coniugare svariati influssi in un linguaggio comunque
unico.

David Kirton is a 35 year old Barbados-based Modern Roots Reggae artist,
and 'Stranger' is his first CD. The first thing I want to say is that
'Stranger' is not a strictly-reggae CD and David's is a very modern reggae
approach, with soul-blended atmospheres and a very refined writing touch.
David's music is not easy or strictly commercial, but in 'Stranger'I think
there is a pop-appeal that gives it potential to be successful worldwide.
Amongst David's musical experiences we can find some Jamaicans relationships
as with Mikey Bennett ( Grafton Studios)and Cat Coore(Thirld Word). Mikey
is co-author of two songs: 'Rasta meditation'and Show me Your Lovin'.
Rasta Meditation has irie irie feelings and a melody that reminds me Gil
Scott-Heron. Mikey Bennett production on the binghi one 'Thanks and praise'.
The other tunes are great. Barbadian producer Chris Allman (Slam City
Studios) helped David give his album a very good nineties reggae music
feel, melting different ingredients to a unique taste!
