Da Augustus Pablo in poi, le tonalita' in minore della dub music hanno sempre accolto in piena armonia i suoni, le scale musicali, le melodie, le suggestioni del "lontano Oriente".
Oggi, in piena new age, gli hard disk di alcune geniali menti musicali inglesi costruiscono pazientemente colorati mosaici con pezzettini di culture lontane, e certi sound systems risuonano di canti devozionali sufi, mantra indiani e lodi ad Allah, magari alternati a piu' ortodosse lodi a Sua Maesta' Imperiale Haile Selassie.
Il tema conduttore e' quello della trance, e quale trance piu' ipnotica di quel particolare ritmo reggae chiamato "steppers"?

Il DJ- produttore - musicista - critico chiamato Rootsman, da Bedford in UK, e' lo stepping master che ha portato il "far east sound" di Augustus Pablo alle estreme conseguenze. La direzione del suo dub porta dritti nel deserto sul dorso dei cammelli, ed il suo nuovo CD si e' spinto fino a soli "52 giorni da Timbuktu".
Melodie arabeggianti e campionamenti di canti tradizionali aprono e percorrono tutto l'album, creando tante oasi di creativita', come uno straniante blues balcanico, struggenti fusioni rai-reggae, e saltellanti tessuti ritmici degni delle piu' selvagge dance di Shaka. Antiche vibrazioni rivivono nei riti collettivi liberatori di fine millenio, anche al suono di un "bad boy business" dal furioso ritmo jungle.

Un vero "discepolo" di questa attitudine al far east stepping, e' l'emergente Dub Chandra, un giovane manipolatore di suoni scoperto ed ispirato da Rootsman. Un suo brano nella compilation "Dub Out West 3" dimostrava una sensibilita' ritmica fresca e danzabile dall'intrigante sapore esotico. In attesa dell'album con Rootsman, esce oggi finalmente il suo proprio album d'esordio: Outlands saccheggia a piene mani suggestioni arabe, indiane, pakistane, in uno stile simile a quello di Rootsman, ma con una felice vena creativa del tutto fresca ed originale.
Dub Chandra lavora in Cornovaglia, sulla costa ovest della Gran Bretagna, e la brezza dell'oceano atlantico, i vasti spazi della campagna inglese, risuonano nella sua musica fra canti indu' e potenti ritmi steppers. La tecnica musicale di Dud Chandra si e' affinata in anni di pratica col suo sound system "LionHeartSound", che ha ospitato tutti i protagonisti dello UK dub anni 90, dai Disciples a Robert Tribulation, da Rootsman a Manasseh. Ora il discepolo e' pronto ad affiancare i suoi maestri!

From Augustus Pablo until today, the minor chords of dub music have always been in perfect armony with sounds and melodies from the "far east". Today, in full new age, the hard disks of some creative english musical minds, are building couloured mosaics with little pieces from far cultures, and certain sound sytems play sufi devotional chants and indian mantras, alternated with more ortodox anthems to HIM Haile Selassie I. The thing is "trance", and what kind of trance is better than that particular reggae rhythmn called "steppers"?

The dub artst called Rootsman, from Bedford in UK, is the stepping master that bring to the extreme the Augustus Pablo "far east sound". His dub direction bring directly in the desert, on the camel's back, and his new CD has driven until only 52 Days To Timbuktu. Arabian melodies and traditional chants sampler rides for all of the set, creating many oasis of crativity, like a "balkanic blues" and rai-reggae fusions, jumping rhythmical patterns in the best steppers mood, and "bad boy business" furious jungle. Ancient vibrations rebirthing in the end of millenium collective rituals of liberation.

A true follower of this "far east stepping" attitude, is the emerging Dub Chandra, a young dub master inspired and launched by Rootsman. Now finally we have his debut CD from Ultrawave records: Outlands takes arabian, indian, pakistan elements, in similar Rootsman style, but with an original creative freshness. Dub Chandra live in Cornwall, on the Great Britain west coast, and atlantic ocean breeze, the great spaces of the english countries, resound in his music, mixed with indu religious chants and hard steppers rhythmn. The musical art of Chandra has been developed in years of practice with his sound system, the Lion Heart Sound, which has played with many greats of the UK dub roots scene, from Disciples to Robert Tribulation, from Rootsman to Manasseh. Now the disciple is ready to be in the same line with his masters.
