Keith Hudson: "Shades of Hudson (VP) Questo disco pubblicato dalla
statunitense VP (il motto della label e' "VP: miles ahead in reggae music",
cioe' "miglia avanti in fatto di reggae") e' una bella collezione di brani
noti e meno noti prodotti da Keith Hudson, "the ghetto dentist" uno dei
produttori meno rappresentati ora sul mercato rispetto al suo talento
e alla sua fama. Il contenuto musicale e' superbo : Dennis Alcapone, Big
Youth, Delroy Wilson, U-Roy, I-Roy , Soul Syndicate, lo stesso Keith Hudson,
e altri celebri artisti. Ci sono delle pietre miliari del primo talk-over
come la celebre "S 90 Skank" di Big Youth (un tributo a una moto Honda
il cui rombo apre il brano) oppure "Spanish amigo" qui in combination
Ken Boothe-Dennis Alcapone. Si suppone che il materiale risalga al periodo
1970-1977. Come avrete quindi compreso il disco e' importante e contiene
tracks memorabili: di certo meritava piu' sostanziose note di copertina,
come per esempio le date e le notizie rispetto alle versions, che non
una striminzita lista dei musicisti che hanno suonato. In questi tempi
"caldi" per le ristampe, le esemplari etichette britanniche come "Blood
& Fire" e "Pressure Sounds" dimostrano di essere in questo campo qualche
miglio piu' avanti della VP. In ogni caso complimenti per la riproposta
del lavoro di Keith Hudson. (Pier Tosi)

This record issued by the american label VP (whose motto is "miles ahead
in reggae music") is a good collection of tracks produced by Keith Hudson,
the "ghetto dentist" one of the less represented producers on the now
worldwide reggae market, considering his talent and fame. Musical contents
are superb: Dennis Alcapone, Big Youth, Delroy Wilson, U-Roy, I-Roy, Soul
Syndicate, the same Keith Hudson and others artists. We can find here
some milestones of the early deejay style like the famous Big Youth's
"S 90 Skank" (a tribute to an Honda's motorbike: you can hear it roaring
at the beginning!) or the Boothe-Alcapone's "Spanish amigo". I suppose
that this material dates back from 1970-1977 period. As you surely understand
this is an important record and contains great tracks: certainly it should
have got richer cover details like the dates of release of tracks or the
version's information, than the poor player's list that you can see on
the label. In these hot times for the reissues the great british labels
Blood &Fire and Pressure Sounds are proving to be in this particular field
many miles ahead than VP. Anyway my compliments for the reissue of great
Keith Hudson's work.
